TLDR: This email introduces Rafi Addlestone as the leader of Global Jewry’s first community of practice focusing on the urgent global climate and nature crisis, and includes several ways your organization can get involved today:
- Connect us with individuals and organizations aligned with our mission who may be interested in collaborating with us: Who do you know who would be interested in joining our climate and sustainability group? What other topics and agendas would benefit from a Global Jewry community of practice?

Rabbi Jonathan Sacks described community as “society with a human face – the place where we know we’re not alone.” This powerful sentiment encapsulates a wonderful privilege of Jewish identity: the opportunity to belong to both a local and a global community. This interconnectedness allows us to support one another across geographical boundaries and a platform to take on our foundational collective mission to act as a ‘light unto the nations’.
This is what drives us at Global Jewry, and why we are committed to developing ‘communities of practice’ to act as a mechanism for cross-border interaction. By bringing together leaders from different countries who are working on similar challenges, we aim to create spaces for mutual support, knowledge sharing, and collaborations that can deliver impact at scale.
Our inaugural community of practice focuses on the urgent global climate and nature crisis. I am proud to chair a diverse group of 15 leaders from the US, Israel, UK, Australia, and South Africa who are working together to find ways to bring a collective Jewish lens to perhaps the most important issue of our time. Together, we have already identified new avenues for collaboration between and across our membership and new opportunities to present a Jewish voice on the global stage.
Our next meeting will delve into a particularly pressing issue: how diaspora communities can support environmental organisations in Israel as they navigate a challenging year for the sustainability movement. We are eager to expand this community to include leaders from other countries and to establish further communities of practice focused on other important topics and agendas.
To achieve this ambitious goal, we seek your invaluable assistance. Who do you know who could contribute to our efforts? By connecting us with individuals and organisations aligned with our mission, you can help us strengthen our global network and amplify our impact. Let us know what you think: What other topics and agendas would benefit from a Global Jewry community of practice? Who do you know who would be interested in joining our climate and sustainability group? We look forward to hearing from you!
Shabbat Shalom,
Rafi
