Nearly two years after October 7th, we face a choice: Do we simply remember the fallen, or do we let their lives transform ours?
In this special edition of GJ Connections, we’re sharing The “Legacies of Light” calendar, a new project from The Afikim Foundation that will be launching this Monday, August 25th. “Legacies of Light” offers 52 days of reflection, running from Rosh Chodesh Elul (August 25th) through Simchat Torah (October 15th). Each day reveals the story of a young hero whose life was cut short but whose legacy burns with purpose.
They were dreamers, creators, lovers, fighters. Each story asks us: If they could live so fully in their brief time, how are we living in ours?
As we approach the High Holy Days, this calendar makes our traditional questions personal and urgent. Are we living fully? Acting bravely? Following our dreams? Making a difference?
In an age of endless distractions, “Legacies of Light” offers something simple yet profound: intention. One story per day. One life to contemplate. One example of how to live with purpose.
This is the ultimate victory over terror: When acts of hatred intended to diminish life instead inspire us to live more fully. Because remembering them is only step one. Living because of them—that’s how we honor their light. Working alongside Global Jewry and engaging with their vast network of Jewish leaders and organizations, we hope to share these stories, remember these heroes, and move forward with intention.
