TL;DR: We mourn the tragic loss of Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky, who were killed in a shooting outside the Capital Jewish Museum during an AJC event. Both were passionate advocates for peace, sustainability, and interfaith dialogue. Their lives and work reflected the values of tikkun olam and the mission of Global Jewry. In grief, the community stands united, honoring their legacy by strengthening global Jewish bonds and continuing their work toward understanding and peace.

We are heartbroken by the tragic shooting that took place outside the Capital Jewish Museum during an event hosted by the American Jewish Committee, both of which are valued partners of Global Jewry. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and our colleagues at AJC and the Museum.

We mourn the loss of Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky. Two deeply committed members of our community whose lives were senselessly cut short. Their dedication to building bridges and advancing peace will not be forgotten.

In this difficult time, we stand in unwavering solidarity with the entire community.

The connections revealed through this tragedy highlight something profound about our global Jewish family. Sarah and Yaron’s story intersects with numerous threads of our network. Members of our advisory board knew them as colleagues, friends, and passionate advocates for tikkun olam.

Sarah, at just 26, embodied the Jewish value of repairing the world through her environmental work at the Israeli Embassy and her commitment to sustainable development. Her dedication to grassroots peacebuilding initiatives and interfaith dialogue exemplified the very connections we strive to strengthen. Yaron, whose own journey from Germany to Israel reflected the diverse paths within our community, shared her vision of expanding circles of peace through intercultural understanding.

This tragedy reveals both our vulnerability and our strength. The networks that connected Sarah and Yaron to so many of us—through universities, organizations, shared values, and common purpose—are the same ones that now rally to support one another in grief. These relationships, forged through education, advocacy, and shared commitment to a better world, are precisely what make our community resilient.

As we work at Global Jewry to ensure a vibrant Jewish future, we honor Sarah and Yaron by continuing to forge more of the very connections they championed. Their legacy calls us to deepen our commitment to dialogue, understanding, and the bridges that make peace possible.

May their memories be a blessing and an inspiration to strengthen the ties that bind our global Jewry community together.

With profound sadness and unwavering solidarity, and hoping this is the week the hostages return home,

The Global Jewry Team
