Like many of you, I’ve received numerous invitations to participate in programs commemorating the one-year anniversary of the October 7th tragedy. It’s both heartwarming and reassuring to see so many Jewish organizations bringing people together to honor the memory of those we lost, pray for the safe return of the remaining hostages, and support all those affected by this attack and its aftermath. Their collective efforts reflect the strength of community in times of hardship, offering hope and healing.
At Global Jewry, we want to express our deep gratitude to everyone working tirelessly to ensure that the events of October 7th are commemorated. We especially commend those partners who have chosen to collaborate with other organizations during this solemn occasion. In these challenging times, when Israel and Jewish communities around the world face unprecedented danger, our unity is more crucial than ever.
To that end, we recently started working with several of our partners and advisory board members to plan and promote a worldwide moment of silence on October 7, 2024. Our goal is to add a global component to the important in-person events taking place throughout the Jewish world.
We hope to involve as many of our partners and advisory board members as possible in this effort. Imagine if all of our partners shared this call for a global moment of silence with their constituents, and if our advisory board members used their influence to rally others. What a profound and massive tribute it would be to those we mourn and to those who still need our support—and what a powerful statement it would make to ourselves and to the rest of the world.
If you are ready to join us in making this global moment of silence happen, send us a direct message (DM) on one of our social media platforms, or email me for more information.
As we approach the conclusion of Elul, a time for spiritual reflection and preparation for the High Holidays, let’s use these final days to seek ways to join hands—both literally and figuratively—as we usher in the new year and commemorate October 7th, just before the Book of Life is sealed at the end of Yom Kippur.
Shabbat shalom, and may this be the week when the hostages return home,
