TL;DR: Amid rising global challenges facing Israel and Jewish communities, Israel Forever is leading a worldwide Declaration Day initiative on May 14 to affirm the historical and legal foundation of Israel’s independence. Declaration Day calls on Jewish leaders, organizations, and allies to unite across communities and reinforce historical truth, counter misinformation, and elevate international recognition of Israel’s statehood.
Amidst a siege on Jews and Israel on many fronts, Israel Forever continues to advance an essential proactive effort to cement historical truth on Declaration Day.
On May 14, groups big and small around the world will be a part of a collective declaration of affirmation recognizing the fulfillment of self-determination of the Jewish nation through the proclaimed independence of reestablished Jewish sovereignty. From Jerusalem to Washington DC and gatherings and events in between, the truth will resound online and everywhere in this unique global awareness campaign.
As a member of Global Jewry’s network of partners, Israel Forever invites this community to join together on May 14. This is an opportunity for those Jewish leaders and organizations brought together by Global Jewry to unite, support one another, and affirm Israel’s independence.
Providing an expertly crafted exhibition for display along with materials for learning and engagement, Declaration Day activities will amplify the monumental significance of the ancient path to independence and the fundamental steps to statehood. The collective commemoration in both Jewish and interfaith settings will advance public awareness of the significance of the diplomatic processes that led to and achieved the official end of the British Mandate, and the legal right of the Jewish leadership to proclaim national independence.
Among the many efforts today to counter the blood libels and lies about Israel, Declaration Day recognition can foster continued reaffirmation of the independence achieved by the rebirth of the Jewish state in the ancestral and biblical homeland of the Jewish nation and cement the date for perpetuity.
The initiative takes on new significance as Israel continues fighting for legitimacy and security, and as Jewish freedoms are attacked across the globe. International awareness of May 14th as a turning point will give profound context to understanding of Israel’s legal rights, and a confirmed date on the secular calendar for which it should be recognized.
While the Jewish world celebrates Yom HaAtzmaut, the changing date and month of Iyar are meaningless in the calendars of public history. Establishing May 14 as Declaration Day gives us the opportunity to carry our celebrations from among our communities outward, and to invoke this milestone as an internationally accepted date of historical significance that demonstrates the leadership, vision, and fulfillment of both an ancient and modern promise.
