Throughout history, the idea of a “commons” has represented shared spaces and resources collectively nurtured for the benefit of all. Today, this concept finds renewed relevance in Global Jewry, which acts as a commons for Jewish organizations worldwide. By fostering collaboration, resource-sharing, and collective action, Global Jewry empowers Jewish organizations to broaden their reach, amplify their impact, align their missions, and address the most pressing challenges facing the Jewish world.

Global Jewry provides a shared platform where diverse organizations can connect, collaborate, and innovate. Just as traditional commons were spaces for gathering and exchange, Global Jewry offers Jewish organizations a virtual and physical hub to share knowledge, strategies, and best practices. Whether it’s through digital forums, newsletters, or in-person convenings, this network allows organizations—regardless of denomination, geography, or focus—to build partnerships and align on common goals.

One of the key principles of the commons is the shared stewardship of resources. For Jewish organizations, this means pooling expertise, funding, and influence to achieve results that no single organization could accomplish alone. Global Jewry enables organizations to tackle issues such as combating antisemitism, fostering Jewish education, and supporting vulnerable communities. By creating a space for collective problem-solving, it ensures that the Jewish organizational world is greater than the sum of its parts.

This year’s overlap between Hanukkah and Christmas highlights the importance of such collaboration. During this season, when both Jewish and Christian communities celebrate light and renewal, Global Jewry provides Jewish organizations an opportunity to collectively engage in interfaith dialogues, cultural exchange, and public education, fostering greater understanding and solidarity across faith communities.

This shared space also fosters innovative approaches to outreach and engagement, including working with intermarried couples and interfaith families. Recognizing the diverse makeup of today’s Jewish community, Global Jewry provides resources and support to help organizations welcome intermarried couples, ensuring they feel valued and connected to Jewish life. This work naturally extends to interfaith families, who play an increasingly important role in the broader Jewish story. By creating inclusive spaces, Global Jewry helps organizations ensure that Jewish traditions remain meaningful and accessible, regardless of background or belief.

Global Jewry, as a commons for Jewish organizations, is a vital force for unity, resilience, and growth. By working together in this shared space, Jewish organizations not only strengthen their individual missions but also advance the collective future of the Jewish world.
